In this work, Al-Ghazali discusses vigilance and reckoning one’s accounts with oneself. He includes a discussion of the vigilance of the truly righteous and how one punishes oneself as well as how one struggles or strives. Emphasis is placed on reproaching or reprimanding the self, a cognitive approach to moral healing. This is Book XXXVI of Part Four of the Alchemy of Happiness entitled the Deliverers.
