Islamic Studies Level 8 Part 2 is suitable for students aged 12 to 16 years, ideally for year eight students. This book consists of 8 units (units 9-16) that build upon the topics covered in book 8 part 1. It covers a variety of important topics and assumes that students have studied the previous books of this series or have prior knowledge of Islamic studies, particularly with regards to the basics of ‘Aqeedah (beliefs), Fiqh and Quran and Sunnah studies. Units nine, ten and eleven discuss the virtues and rulings of Friday congregational prayer (Al-Jumu’ah), the prayer of the Traveller and the Sick as well as the prayer and etiquettes of the Eid celebration. In unit twelve, the issue of war and peace in Islam and the permission for Jihad and its conditions are discussed. Then the First and Second Major military encounters with Quraish, namely the battles of Badr and Uhud, are discussed in units thirteen and fourteen. Finally, units fifteen and sixteen discuss the history of Islam during the reigns of the 3rd and 4th Rightly Guided Caliphs, Uthman Ibn Affan (RA) and Ali Ibn Abi Talib (RA). This Curriculum mainly aims to foster in Muslim students the essential Islamic beliefs and values that drive the pursuit of excellence, provide spiritual growth and develop future leaders who make positive contributions to their communities and the wider society. Why Al-Hikmah Islamic Education Curriculum (HIEC)?As our world continues to progress towards a more personalised, interactive technology, education is moving away from the one-size-fits-all model of learning. HIEC consists of three versions, each of which includes twenty customizable textbooks: 1. Universal version: Designed to cater for the needs of Muslim students living in non-Muslim societies in general. The current textbook is part of this version, which is available for the public. 2. Partly customised version: Designed to cater for the needs of specific schools or organisations. This version is available for Islamic schools and education providers/ organisations. 3. Fully customised version: Designed to cater for the needs of specific schools or organisations and based on comprehensive research and/or consultation program. This version is available for Islamic schools and organisations, particularly schools with more than 250 students. HIEC programs and textbooks are the outcomes of extensive research and teaching expertise in the field of Islamic studies and education practices. Research conducted prior to the development of these textbooks include systematic reviews and analyses of the Islamic studies and values programs taught at several Islamic schools, Islamic textbooks and resources available in the market, in-depth group discussions with Islamic studies teachers and school leaders, individual interviews and teacher/parents questionnaires, more than one hundred hours of lesson observations, as well as analyses of students’ needs, teaching practices and assessment processes.
